About Me

Who’s P Money…

P Money is a grime originator. His musical style is fast paced, with hard hitting punchlines that are smoothly delivered. One of the UK’s most talented lyricists and known figures in the grime scene.

Here we ask some exclusive questions to give you an insight into the man behind the music…

Where are you from and where did you grow up?

My family background is Jamaican, St Elizabeth province. Everyone thinks I’m Ghanaian but I’m not, I just roll with a lot of Ghanaians! I grew up in New Cross, in South London.

Who and what were your influences growing up?

Back in the day I listened to Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, So Solid Crew and Neutrino. I was influenced by the people I saw gaining traction on any mic. I had stories to tell that I wanted people to hear so I started writing myself. My uncle had a studio and my cousin was a DJ, we used to do sets at his house just me and him ,then I started recording my first songs in that same studio

How long have you been MC’ing for and how did you start?

I started about 12/13 years old and I’m 31 now. I just started with poetry, making it rhyme and telling my stories. Then when garage turned to grime I started writing to the beats I heard while listening to pirate radio and it went from there!

What are your biggest successes thus far in your career, in your opinion?

For me, performing at Glastonbury three times has been insane. I was the first grime act at Wireless with a full tent, that was crazy, I was also one of the first artists to hit a million views on 1Xtra with my freestyle for Mista Jam. Lastly, I am still independent.

What is your overall aim with your career in music?

I used to just wanna stay true to myself and release music I like. Now I also wanna help the other MCs and producers and bring them through, leave a legacy.

Who have you worked with over the years?

Skepta, Dizzee, Wiley, Ed Sheeran, Snoop Dogg, Kelly Rowland, Lioness, Benga, Skream, Chase and Status, tons more!
